Reflection of the year

April 12, 2010

These last couple of weeks have been extremely stressful. Project after project, paper after paper, and test after test. But as of today foundation year is done (for me at least). I have met so many cool and interesting people and have learned a lot about art and myself over this last year. Even though organization and scheduling have been debatable topics, I loved being here with all of you. Watching Teen Titans in the mlab. Doing all-nighters. Sleeping anywhere I can rest my head. All of these things and more is what made this year so gratifying. Thank you Emily Carr for letting me have this wonderful experience.

Is DONE. YAY

Check it out, it’s my:

Movie Monster Handbook

It contains a brief summary of the knowledge that I have obtained from many years of television and movie watching experience.

I hope you enjoy.

Almost There

April 4, 2010

So I went to the doc and was there for 3 hours but I am picking up my publication on Tuesday. I was really busy in there.

If you didn’t already know I made a booklet about my experience with movie monsters. If you read it it’s pretty funny, especially the “about the author” part.

This week I am focusing on my exams and my projects, have a great weekend and I will see you next Monday.

Can you handle the red?

March 8, 2010

So as you can probably see my poster is about racism of the red hair kind. I am really scared to present in class tomorrow because I think thatĀ  I am going to get a bit of controversy on the subject matter, but I had fun making this poster and I think that is what matters most.

To top my poster’s statement off, here are some more fun red head facts:

An Irish judge in 2001 fined a man for disorderly conduct stating “I am a firm believer that hair coloring has an effect on temper and your coloring suggests you have a temper.”

Adolph Hitler reportedly banned the marriages of two redheads as he feared their children would be “deviant offspring”.

In Corsica, if you pass a redhead onĀ  the street you spit and turn around.

People with red hair often have different colored hair at different times of their life. It seems that it is more likely to be red in childhood or in early adult life, than in later life.

Redheads are harder to sedate than people of other hair color, requiring 20 percent more anesthesia.

Although less than 2 percent of the world’s population is naturally red-haired, the most popular color of at-home hair dye is red.

Lookie Lookie At The Thing I Found

These are just some inspirations that I have found over the internet for this next project.

The Idea

February 26, 2010

I haven’t posted anything in a while but that is because I am just enjoying my break a little to much, but now it is time to get back to work. So as most of you already know one passion that I have is for red head rights. I think that I had a argument with a couple of people in this class but I have had this talk with many people so I don’t really remember. Before I go explaining what it is I have to lay down some official definitions first:

Race
1. A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics.
2. A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race.
3. A genealogical line; a lineage.
4. Humans considered as a group.
5. Biology
a. An interbreeding, usually geographically isolated population of organisms differing from other populations of the same species in the frequency of hereditary traits. A race that has been given formal taxonomic recognition is known as a subspecies.
d. A breed or strain, as of domestic animals.

Racism
1. A belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. A policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. Hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

And some unofficial definitions:

Ginger
A human, characterized by pale skin, freckles and bright red hair. “Gingers” are generally considered to be inferior to their more melanin-rich brethren, and thus deserving discriminated against. Gingers are thought to have no souls. The condition, “gingervitis” is genetic and incurable.

Gingerism
A form of discrimination that is considered racism towards people with red heads. This form of racism is still acceptable by societies standards and is just as wrong as discrimination against Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, Middle easterners. Unfortunately not much is done to stop this. Red headed children are harassed at school and even the work place is hostile for red heads.

I have done some on and off research about what other people think about the color of red hair and what label or category my friends, family, and myself fit into. Some has been really disturbing and some is just ridicules. When I get into arguments with people about my hair the first thing they do is assume that I am not treated differently for it, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Stereotypes like ‘fire tempered’ and ‘sharp tongued’ have been with me my hole life. The first thing that most people notice about me is my hair and how it stands out. This isn’t a bad thing but they sometimes assume my personality instead of getting to know me. I love being a red head but all of these ridiculous notions, stories that i have heard, and what people tell me to my face can frustrate me to the point were my blood starts to boil.

I will see you all Monday.

Nothing you don’t already know

February 7, 2010

This is just what the final product was; what was shown in class.

The colors are adujusted for the paper I used so this might look weird on your screen.

I have no idea where to put this 30×5. Should I hang it up, leave it under the bed, or put it in the recycling. Ideas?

Ready to go

January 29, 2010

I went to the doc today (digital output center). I have been there at the beginning of the year but back then I didn’t know that you were suppose to take notes, but now I do. I learned more about color and editing the image to match the printed image. They told me to use Shadow/ Highlights, and showed me how to see the image on the computer with the colors that the paper you choose will allow. I also went on Tuesday to do a test print and I am glad that I did because today all the computers were taken up and one guy went on his lunch break, so things went slow. I saw Adrienne there and she had been there for a couple of hours.

So I am picking up my 30×5 on Monday before class, and I can’t wait to see everyone else work.

My steps

So this is the original panorama with no editing:

And this is the my figure with no editing:

And this is just the figure in the space with no editing:

And this is the latest version, edited but not fully complete. I can always find something wrong with it.

Cloudy Day WIN

January 18, 2010

So I decided to take pictures of my dad portaging a canoe that he made himself awhile ago. I was thinking about the first settlers that came to Canada when I was looking back at my background pictures. The rough terrain that I depicted would have been what they experienced (probably worse actually). I just uploaded them now and I can see a mistake that I made. I took the pictures with my dad behind my house because we have white shingles but in the reflection of the canoe picked up the shingles in the image. I think that I can probably fix it in Photoshop by myself but I am bringing back up figures from my old photo library tomorrow just in case I can’t.

I hope everyone else had a good time doing their homework.
